Moments after the race for New York City mayor was called for Zohran Mamdani, a celebration seemingly erupted throughout Brooklyn and New York City.
This mayoral election drew the largest number of voters for a NYC mayoral election since 1969 , according to the New York City Board of Elections. And Brooklynites came out to support Mamdani in droves. Bars throughout the borough were packed for watch parties that eventually turned into victory parties.
Zach Rose, the manager of Franklin Park, a bar in Crown Heights, had to turn away a long line of excited voters wanting a drink, many wearing Mamdani shirts. “We’ve never seen anything like this before. Not for the presidential election. Not for the Knicks. Nothing like this,” he told the Eagle.
