OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - A proposed funding cut for next year to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society led to several people speaking out in opposition before the city council on Tuesday night during a budget hearing.
Action 2 News heard from both sides in what’s become an emotional debate.
For many at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, the city’s budget next year is now a big concern as it proposes spending just $60,000 for contracted services, down from more than $107,000 in 2024.
A reduction, the executive director says, isn’t feasible.
“The cost of each stray animal we take in is $250, and that is just for the basic care, where we currently receive $150 from the city of Oshkosh for each of the animals. That is a gap of $100 per animal that the Humane Society has to cover from donated funds,”
