Forty Fort residents chose the members of Forty Fort United to represent them on council and as mayor, according to unofficial election results.
As of presstime on Tuesday night with 100% of the precincts in the borough reporting, Mary Ann Bottaro, who was on the Democratic ticket, secured 967 votes and appeared to defeat Republican challenger and Forty Fort Proud member Tony Smith, who ended the night with 629 votes.
Bottaro is the first woman elected mayor in Forty Fort history.
Bottaro has spent over 30 years teaching at Dana Street Elementary and her family has been a fixture in the community for decades, having owned the former Sal’s Pizza on the corner of Wyoming Avenue and Hughes Street.
Additionally, Bottaro is the vice president of the Parks and Recreation Committee.
