LANSING — Lansing City Council will have two new members in January and welcome back two others after the Nov. 4 general election.
Voters chose newcomers Clara Martinez and Deyanira Nevarez Martinez as new council members and returned council members Jeremy Garza and Peter Spadafore, but to different seats.
Martinez, a dance instructor at Everett High School and a school union official, and Garza, now a Ward 2 councilmember, will represent the entire city as at-large-council members. Martinez received 33% of the votes cast. Garza got 30%
Deyanira Nevarez Martinez, a current Lansing school board member, received 72% of the Ward 2 votes in her competition with Erik Almquist, a former Fennville councilmember.
