SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Republican Jeff Brown has been elected as the next Saratoga County Sheriff, according to unofficial results from the Saratoga County Board of Elections. Brown ran against Democrat Ryan Mahan in the race to replace former Sheriff Michael Zurlo.

Brown is the Undersheriff of the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, having spent 30 years in the department. While campaigning, Brown told NEWS10 that the county is safe, but there are still quality-of-life crimes.

Mahan is a former Saratoga County deputy and the current Chief of the Hoosick Falls Police Department, who has spent most of his career as an officer.
