On Wednesday at 12:54 a.m. the National Weather Service released a high wind warning valid from 7 p.m. until Thursday 8 a.m. for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Schoharie, Schenectady, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia, Ulster and Washington counties.
"West winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 to 60 mph expected," says the weather service. "A line of showers and isolated thunderstorms will rapidly track across the region from west to east this evening. Winds will quickly shift to the west and strengthen. While the strongest winds will likely only last for a short window (2 to 4 hours) tonight, these winds will be capable of damage including downed trees/limbs and power lines. Gusty winds will continue through the early morning hours on Thursday but will gradually weaken."
