Minutes after voters passed Proposition 50 during Tuesday's special election, Democratic Rep. Ami Bera announced his campaign for re-election in California's 3rd Congressional District.

Prop 50 is one piece of a larger national fight in which Republicans and Democrats are trying to gerrymander their congressional districts to determine which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives halfway through President Trump's term. The passing of Prop 50 means California's congressional maps will be redrawn, giving Democrats a chance to secure house majority in 2026.
