Overtaking will be banned along an A-road running through a village just across the Gloucestershire border.
The primary A40 route through Lea near Ross-on-Wye already has a 30mph speed limit in place.
But it will see the additional restriction implemented through a traffic regulation order (TRO) recently announced by Herefordshire Council .
The overtaking prohibition will also extend to the remainder of the village, near the Forest of Dean, including the other principal route passing through it.
The B4222, which will now be subject to a 30mph limit southwest of its junction with the A40 in the village centre.
