CLEVELAND, Ohio — CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tanmay Shah appeared poised Tuesday night to oust incumbent Danny Kelly from Cleveland City Council, holding a slim seven-vote lead in Ward 12 that could mark one of the few upsets of the city’s first election under new boundaries.

The razor-thin margin was close enough to trigger an automatic recount, and provisional and late-arriving mail-in ballots still must be tallied.

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., and results were still coming in across Cleveland as of 11:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Cleveland voters are living within a brand-new set of political boundaries, and this year, 11 of the 15 seats on City Council are up for grabs.
