LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - The family of a Las Vegas man shot and killed during a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest gathered to react to a federal jury’s verdict, which found two police officers liable regarding the shooting.
The Tuesday night vigil near the steps of the Lloyd George Federal Courthouse marked five years since Las Vegas Metropolitan police shot and killed Jorge Gomez, 25, who was spotted with a rifle in the downtown area during a protest.
Only two of the officers were found liable in the lawsuit filed by Gomez’s parents after the district attorney’s office failed to prosecute them.
“As far as the verdict, we really have a lot of mixed emotions right now,” Jeannie Llera, Gomez’s mother said. “It's really hard to have any accountability here in Vegas against police, so we're gratefu
