LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - A police investigation is underway in Henderson following public concern over a social media post that an abandoned dog was found in a trash bag.

Henderson police told 8 News Now on Tuesday evening that officers became aware of the social media post regarding the dog, which was found near Via Da Vinci and Via Firenze near Sun City Anthem Drive and Bicentennial Parkway.

The dog was found in a trash bag in the area and was later taken to a local animal hospital, where it passed away, police said.

"The investigation is in its early stages, and no further details are available at this time," police told 8 News Now.
