NEW ULM — The New Ulm Fire Department responded to an explosion reported at 8:19 a.m. Tuesday at New Ulm Apartments, 320 19th Street North.
“There was lots of steam and little bit of smoke when we got there,” said New Ulm Fire Chief Paul Macho. “A pipe exploded between the first and second floor. A boiler and pipes around it were damaged in a utility room.”
The explosion was due to an over-pressurized boiler on the first floor, according to a fire department news release. All apartment occupants safely exited, there were no injuries, smoke alarms were working, there were no injuries and the building was ventilated.
Fire and police departments were on scene for about 30 minutes. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and City of New Ulm Public Utilities assisted the fire departments.
