Industry analysts have calculated that the TV licence is set to jump to £180 next year. Sky's Money blog reported the increase would likely be determined by the average Consumer Price Index figure.

The cost rose to £174.50 for a colour television in April 2025 - a £5 increase from the previous year. Multiple publications have indicated the annual charge could reach £182 next year.

The previous year's increase was calculated using the average Consumer Price Index reading between October 2023 and September 2024, which stood at 2.96%. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy confirmed in November 2024 that the government intended to apply this methodology for at least the following two years.
