COOK COUNTY, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Cook County voters accepted a measure that would raise property taxes and give the Cook County School District $6.65 million for facility improvements.
On Tuesday, the referendum was accepted with 47.3% against and 52.7% in favor of. The effort failed last year by just 2%.
This money would be for facility improvements, including performing arts upgrades, outdoor learning spaces, and a multi-use physical education area.
“It’s also an investment in the workforce attraction and economic development. This space we’re in now is used by the community all the time,” said Superintendent Chris Lindholm.
The referendum will come with a one-time $5 million grant from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.
