Daniel Hart, a 29-year-old man, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the brutal rape of two women in their homes on the same day. The attacks occurred on May 14 and 15 this year in Poole, Dorset.
Hart's first victim, a woman in her 70s suffering from dementia, was assaulted in her home during the night. He broke in and dragged her into the bedroom before raping her. Police were alerted to the incident at 5.15am, where they collected DNA evidence that linked Hart to the crime.
The following day, Hart attacked a second victim, a woman in her 40s. He approached her outside her flat and forcibly took her inside, where he raped her. Police received a call about this incident around 2pm. Officers quickly located Hart nearby, leading to a chase that ended with him jumping through a window back into the flat.
The second victim, who also had disabilities, identified Hart as her attacker. He was arrested at the scene and later charged with the rapes of both women. Hart pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday.
Detective Inspector Jon Sainsbury from Bournemouth CID commented on the case, stating, "Daniel Hart’s horrific offending saw him rape two vulnerable women in their own homes. Thanks to the swift response from officers on the day and a thorough and determined investigation by detectives afterwards, we were able to hold him to account for his despicable crimes."
Sainsbury praised the efforts of Detective Constable Hele Leech-Wilkinson and Detective Constable Chloe Roaf for their diligent work in building the case against Hart. He reaffirmed the commitment of the police to support victims of sexual offences and to take strong action against offenders.
