CHARDON, Ohio – Geauga County voters on Tuesday narrowly approved a 20-year, 1.2-mill property tax increase and renewal levy to fund improvements and maintenance across the Geauga Park District.
According to unofficial final results from the Geauga County Board of Elections, the levy passed 11,030 to 10,796 — a margin of 50.6% to 49.4% — securing about $3.38 million in annual funding for the county’s park system.
The measure renews an existing 0.7-mill levy first approved in 1985 and adds 0.5 mills in new taxes, which will cost property owners an additional $17.50 per year for every $100,000 in home value. The renewal portion will continue to cost about $5.50 per $100,000.
Park officials said the funding will help maintain trails, improve facilities and address aging infrastructure thro
