CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Medical University of South Carolina will hold a tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday as part of its annual Angel Tree initiative.

Hospital workers and community members are invited to “adopt” an angel from the tree and collect gifts that will go to Tri-County children in need.

The angels are children of families in local communities who were identified by The Salvation Army of Charleston as those in need. The goal is to make sure each child receives a gift to open during the holiday season.

People will be able to adopt and shop for gifts over a four-week period, which will culminate in an “Angel Tree Parade of Toys” that will be held at MUSC on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The tree will be located on the ground floor lobby of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital
