Zohran Mamdani will be the next mayor of New York City after defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in Tuesday’s election .
Mamdani, a self-described Demcratic socialist who focused on cost-of-living issues, is a 34-year-old NYS Assembly member who will replace NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Mamdani will be the city’s youngest mayor in more than a century and its first Muslim mayor.
Mamdani directly addressed President Donald Trump shortly after being declared the winner Tuesday night with more than 50% of the votes.
“To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us," the mayor-elect said. “So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!”
