NEW YORK (PIX11) – Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani announced his victory in New York City's election on Tuesday, becoming the youngest mayor in office in more than 100 years.
He was able to beat former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa for the seat with 50% of the vote. And when Mamdani takes office as the mayor, he's expected to see a boost in his yearly income.
State legislators like Mamdani make $142,000 a year after the body passed a law to increase their salaries in 2022, according to City and State New York. New York state senators and assemblymembers are the highest paid in the U.S.
Current Mayor Eric Adams earns $258,750 a year, according to New York City data. His job description includes appointing and removing commissioners of over 40 city agencies, boar
