MINOT — The Bismarck Tribune’s Grant Coursey did some excellent journalism with his story uncovering a lawsuit alleging fraud and other problems with North Dakota’s “Wonder Fund,” launched under former Gov. Doug Burgum.
That’s $45 million of state money managed by reality TV host Kevin O’Leary’s investment fund. O’Leary and his fellow defendants dispute the accusations made in the lawsuit, though the State of North Dakota has already had to buy out $1.25 million of Wonder Fund investments that conflicted with federal rules.
There’s a lot of trepidation in the public about how far down this rabbit hole goes.
There’s a larger problem that’s upstream from O’Leary and the Wonder Fund, which is that North Dakota’s Department of Commerce does an absolutely atrocious job managing workforce
