FARGO — A civil lawsuit that claims North Dakota diluted the Native American vote has found support from Minnesota, multiple other states, and well-known politicians, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether to take on the case.
In court filings over the last month, several groups asked the highest court in the nation to hear the case filed by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Spirit Lake Nation and three voters against North Dakota. If the Supreme Court takes on the case, it would decide whether only the U.S. Department of Justice has the power to file a Voting Rights Act lawsuit against a state.
