A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after ramming his car into pedestrians and cyclists across France’s Oleron, a popular Atlantic island, injuring at least nine people.

The suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar”, Arabic for “God is Greatest”, as he was taken into custody, local prosecutor Arnaud Laraize told Sud Ouest newspaper, as per a report by news agency Reuters.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed the incident in a post on X.
