The IDPs have termed the Rs 84 aid as “inhumane” and issued a 10-day ultimatum to the state government, demanding safe return to their native villages
In a revolt of sorts, 466 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Sajiwa Relief Camp in Imphal East on Wednesday returned their one-month ration allowance of Rs 11,74,320 to the Government of Manipur, rejecting what they described as an “inhumane” and “insufficient” relief measure.
The IDPs marched to the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Sawombung, and handed over the amount through an Executive Magistrate, stating they could not accept the Rs 84 per person per day allowance recently introduced by the government under its new Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
