A Kent village's Christmas lights display could be cancelled because of Union and St George's flags put up over the summer, a parish council has warned. As in previous years, permission has been granted for festive lights to go up on the A20 as it runs through Harrietsham, to the east of Maidstone .

But this year the rubber stamp from Reform-led Kent County Council (KCC) comes with a "condition": that all flags attached to lampposts along the route are taken down. Harrietsham Parish Council (HPC) said this prerequisite could mean the display - beloved by locals - might not happen in 2025.
