Oh, darlin', after a five-year wait, Charleston-born Darling Oyster Co. has opened at 27 Montgomery St. I looked back into our archives to find the original announcement, which was written by former city reporter Katie Nussbaum on Jan. 15, 2020.
At the time, Nussbaum wrote that the Darling team planned on "spending the next year restoring and preserving the history of the building on Franklin Square, while renovating the space." That pink-stuccoed space, the former Universal Trading Co.―one of the quirkiest antique, collectible and vintage shops ever to grace Savannah―needed a lot of work because the 130-year-old building had been neglected for years.
