Nyla Weaver passed peacefully from this life with family by her side on Oct. 30 at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center.
Nyla was born Jan. 16, 1929, in the Carey hospital, the youngest child of James Henry and Ida Lucille Wilde. She grew up with four sisters, Emily Smith, Hazel Dixon, Iris Cook and Delsa Wilde; and two brothers, Earl Wilde and Leonard Wilde. Nyla attended school in Carey and graduated in 1947.
A short time later, Nyla met the love of her life, Reed Weaver. As she told it, they met one night while stealing chickens! They had a brief romance and married on Dec. 30, 1952. Reed and Nyla put down roots in Carey, where they raised their three children, Jerry, JoLynn and David. The two were inseparable and fortunate to spend over 70 years side by side.
