A pedestrian was killed Tuesday evening in suburban Lincolnshire after being struck by a car, leading a busy road to close during the rush hour comment as officials worked to investigate.

The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. on Milwaukee Avenue near Knightsbridge Parkway, the Lincolnshire Police Department said. Upon arrival, officers found an 81-year-old man had by struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Milwaukee Ave.

Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders and good Samaritans, the pedestrian was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation showed a Dodge Durango, driven by a man from Prospect Heights, was traveling southbound on Milwaukee. As he was driving, it appeared the pedestrian was attempting to cross Milwaukee Ave, police said.
