A suspect has been arrested after a driver ploughed into pedestrians and cyclists on the France holiday island of Saint Pierre d´Oléron, before 'trying to set his vehicle on fire with gas canisters'

A man who allegedly smashed his car into a group of pedestrians and cyclists "tried to set his vehicle on fire".

Police have arrested a suspect after at least 10 people were left injured, with two in intensive care, in the horror attack on the French holiday island of Saint Pierre d´Oléron . The suspect, a 35-year-old man, reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" when he was arrested this morning. A car rammed into several people and cyclists on a road between two villages on the island, on the West of the country.
