Three inductees have joined the Alabama Academy of Honor, the 60-year-old institution that recognizes living Alabamians for their service to the state and country.

Since its creation, 260 people have been inducted into the academy.

This year’s honorees are activist, minister, educator, and lecturer Bernard LaFayette Jr., outgoing three-term Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and physician and president of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Ray Watts.

Gov. Kay Ivey gave opening remarks at the Capitol ceremony.
