Noah and Olivia topped the list of most popular names for babies for 2025 once again, with Liam and Oliver following closely behind in popularity for boys and Amelia and Sophie for girls, new data by BabyCenter found.
While the most popular name for both genders remained the same as last year, BabyCenter, in a news release on Nov. 5, noted "shakeups in the top 10 on both sides." For example, Eliana and Aurora entered the Top 10 names for girls at number 7 and 9, respectively, bumping out Ava and Luna, which the digital parenting resource said are a "celestial favorite."
On the boys’ side, Luca entered the Top 10, pushing Leo out.
"The top 100 also got a refresh," BabyCenter said with seven new girl names, including Juniper, Oaklynn, Sienna and Eloise, bringing "a mix of cottagecore, vintage, and modern flair" to the list. Meanwhile, for boys, names like Malachi, Ali and Arthur entered the top 100, signaling "a turn toward strong classics with spiritual and ancient roots," according to the organization.
BabyCenter, which has been publishing reports on baby names since 2004, said the "insights come from BabyCenter's proprietary name data, sourced from more than 350,000 babies born in 2025 to parents registered on the BabyCenter app."
"Because names are submitted in real time, BabyCenter is able to spot emerging trends before the Social Security Administration releases its annual list," the organization, which updates its most popular baby names list every month using the data shared by BabyCenter parents as they choose their baby's name, said.

Names inspired by pop culture, sports and literature gaining popularity
The findings also noted an increase in names inspired by pop culture trends, with "BabyCenter parents pulling inspiration straight from their playlists and binge-watches," the organization said, adding "athletes from the NBA and WNBA are racking up naming influence, and book lovers are breathing new life into classic literary picks."
According to BabyCenter, names inspired by pop culture and sports trends include:
- Country baby names such as Rose, Jane, Miley, Willie, and Austin highlight the "increased influence" that the "country aesthetic is having" with the help of major artists like Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter."
- Nick, Lance and Howie, following the Backstreet Boys' Sphere residency and Y2K nostalgia
- TV show-inspired names such as Helena from "Severance"; Samira, Heather, and Cassie from "The Pitt"; Belinda, Chelsea, and Valentin from "The White Lotus"; and Isabel and Conrad from "The Summer I Turned Pretty".
- Names of 2025 NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, such as Jalen, Jaylin, Isaiah, and Dillon, all rose in popularity
- WNBA stars like Courtney, Kelsey, and Natasha are also influencing name choices.
- Sawyer and Finn from "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"; Jay, Daisy, Buchanan, and Baker from "The Great Gatsby"; and Holden from "The Catcher in the Rye" are classic literature names that rose in popularity.
Names no longer popular
Meanwhile, names like Blake (down 85 spots) and Justin (down 24 spots) dropped in popularity "after a year of headline drama," BabyCenter said, adding parents are "steering clear of names caught in public scandal." Boy names ending in -y, such as Vinny, Grady, Murphy, and Kody are also on the way out.
Robin Hilmantel, BabyCenter's senior director of editorial strategy and growth, said in a statement that the list reflects "the first year of Generation Beta babies.”
“Our data shows how deeply pop culture – down to popular TikTok aesthetics – are widening new parents’ circles of influence," Hilmantel said. "The baby naming process has gotten so much more creative, while also sticking to long-held rules – like if a name is embroiled in controversy, we’ll see it drop from the spotlight.”
Social Security Administration also compiles list of most popular baby names
The Social Security Administration (SSA) also compiles a list of the 1,000 most popular baby names every year. As of Nov. 4, the SSA has not released its list.
According to the SSA, the top five girls' and boys' names that increased the most in popularity in 2024 were:
Girls
- Ailany
- Aylani
- Marjorie
- Scottie
- Analeia
Boys
- Truce
