AKRON, Ohio — Heads up! If you were planning to visit the Akron Zoo today (Wednesday, Nov. 5), you will need to find other plans because the zoo is closed.
But why are they closed?
In a Facebook post, Akron Zoo officials say the closure is to “conduct joint safety drills” alongside the Akron Fire Department, Akron Police Department and Summa Health.
“These drills allow us to ensure guest and animal safety and also serves as a training opportunity for our first responders,” according to the zoo’s social media post. “IT'S JUST A DRILL! All animals will be safely in their habitats and bedrooms. The only animals running around will be those staff members in animal onesies!”
The Akron Zoo will reopen at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6.
