Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is worth more than $500 billion, according to the latest estimate from Forbes.
If you adjust for inflation, that makes him about 17 times as rich as John D. Rockefeller at his peak .
Even as a share of today’s much larger economy, Musk is richer.
Now, he wants a contract from Tesla that will pay him $1 trillion over the next decade if he hits performance goals. And of course, his $500 billion nest egg will grow during the decade as well. Maybe he can break $2 trillion, and be richer than four Rockefellers put together.
My question is this: How long are we going to tolerate this kind of grotesque inequality, when one man can hold wealth that is greater than the economy of Denmark, while millions of hard-working Americans can’t pay the damn rent?
