Iwill never forget watching those tiny little feet climbing the giant steps of the school bus on the very first day of school, as I sat in the driver’s seat. Big eyes brimming with tears — trying so hard to be brave.

“Good morning,” I said gently, as this precious child sat down on the front seat across from me. Then came the wave goodbye… and the tears started to fall. What could I do?

So I turned around, looked at that small, scared face, and said, “I’m going to be alright — and I’ll make sure you are, too.” And I meant it. Because that was my job. And I loved it. I took it seriously.

Fifteen years later, I still do. I’ve taken the same job to a new level, continuing to support every precious child on their first day of school — and every day after.
