Thousands of New Jersey voters made their way to the polls Nov. 4 to cast their votes for the state's next governor, along with many other county and local races.

In the end, Rep. Mikie Sherrill came out on top, defeating Republican Jack Ciattarelli to become the second woman to be elected governor in the Garden State.

With 60% of the votes counted, The Associated Press and NBC called the race for Sherrill over Ciattarelli at around 9:25 p.m. Nov. 4.

Sherrill took the stage in the ballroom at the Hilton East Brunswick Hotel shortly after, accompanied by her husband, Jason Hedberg, as well as their kids. Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" echoed through the room.

Here's everything you need to know about the state's new first family as Sherrill prepares to be sworn in as governor.
