ATLANTA — Two statewide races for a Georgia regulating body that is otherwise often overlooked took top bill in this year's elections, and have now made headlines with two Democratic victories in the first statewide wins for Democrats in the Peach State in 20 years.

The races for the two seats on the five-member Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) offered voters a unique opportunity -- to vote directly, in some respects, on their electric bill.

While the PSC has a wide range of responsibilities in regulating state utilities, one of its most tangible is approving or altering the rates Georgia Power can charge customers.

Those rates have gone up in recent years, which the two Republican incumbents -- Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson -- ha
