The ongoing US government shutdown , which started on October 1, entered its 36th day on Wednesday, making it the longest so far. US House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday termed the longest shutdown a ‘sad landmark’ and insisted he’s willing to talk to Democrats about their demands for health care funds.

The Republican, however, continued to blame Democrats for the record-breaking shutdown, even as US President Donald Trump and some GOP representatives admitted that it hurt the party’s chances in Tuesday’s elections.
