VALDESE, N.C. — Workers removing debris from a culvert discovered what authorities confirmed to be human remains Tuesday afternoon, according to the Valdese Police Department .

Police received a call about 4:47 p.m. that day regarding an investigation near the intersection of Praley Street SW and Massel Avenue SW.

Employees of Debris Tech were working in the area when they found what they believed to be human remains. Officers secured the scene and contacted the Medical Examiner's Office, which confirmed the discovery.

Due to limited daylight and the detailed work required to process skeletal remains, authorities secured the scene overnight.
