Republican President Donald Trump had just four short words in response to Democratic wins in key races across the country on Election Day.

“ ... AND SO IT BEGINS!” the president posted to his Truth Social site .

The second-term president offered no further details. But it was clear that one election cycle was over, and another, quite pivotal one, the 2026 midterm campaign, was beginning.

Trump’s remarks came the same night that California voters approved a redrawing of the state’s congressional maps intended to favor Democrats , and on the heels of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani’s clear victory in New York City’s mayoral contest .
