Perrysburg City Council voted 4-2 to turn down a request by Kazmaier’s grocery store to put a 20-foot-by-20-foot mural on the west side of its storefront downtown.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Kevin Fuller, Tim McCarthy, Barry VanHoozen, and Mark Weber voted to deny the special approval use. They said that while the mural would be a beautiful addition to East Second Street, it had been denied by the planning commission for historical and zoning reasons, and that decision should be respected.
Cory Kuhlman and Kerry Wellstein voted in favor. They said they supported the small business that had been in Perrysburg for more than 100 years and that the mural would spruce up downtown.
Councilman Rick Rettig was absent.
It is expected that Kazmaier’s will submit a new design.
