Democratic Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey fended off socialist challenger Omar Fateh to win his third term in Tuesday’s 2025 election .
Frey was declared the winner on Wednesday after the election came down to ranked choice voting because neither candidate secured a majority of the vote.

After the first round, Frey led with 42% of votes compared to Fateh’s 32%. Other challengers also received a considerable amount of votes, including DeWayne Davis and Jazz Hampton, who got 14% and 10% of votes, respectively.
