A suspected drunk driver was arrested Tuesday after crashing into a power pole in Santa Rosa, triggering an outage that left thousands of PG&E customers in the dark, according to police.

The solo-vehicle crash happened at about 12:19 p.m. on Piner Road, just east of Marlow Road, police said. Witnesses told authorities that the driver of a white Tesla, later identified as 46-year-old Santa Rosa resident Anthony Turnbull, crashed into a power pole, causing power lines to fall to the ground. Witnesses said they then watched Turnbull throw an apparent alcohol bottle into a nearby grassy area and walk away from the scene.

A responding police officer found Turnbull not far from the crash scene. The officer also found an almost empty bottle of Fireball whisky in the area pointed out by witnesse
