The Georgia High School Association recently released proposed changes for the 2026-2028 reclassification cycle. Structural changes include Class A Division I and II being merged into Class A and Class 7A being reinstated as the highest classification.

With those adjustments, a dozen Augusta-area teams could be changing classifications next fall.

Lakeside is set to move up to 7A from 5A

Grovetown will move from the previous top classification of 6A to the second-highest in the new cycle, which is also labeled as 6A.

Evans and Greenbrier will move up to 6A from 5A.

Harlem and Academy of Richmond County will head to 5A from 3A.

Cross Creek will go to 4A from 3A.

Burke County, Butler and Thomson all move up to 3A from 2A.

Aquinas will move down from 3A to 2A.
