Congratulations to the new Newnan mayor, James Shepherd, and City Council members for District 2, Jennifer Cheever Morrison and Scott Berta.

Thank you for your willingness to step forward and challenge the “good old boy” network of cronyism, personal interests and self-enrichment that has guided much of the city’s politics and decision-making for far too long.

So much has already been lost. So much damage has already been done to the rural character and quality of life that made Newnan such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I am not sure that it can be restored.

But if you are truly committed to your campaign promises to represent and include the interests of all citizens in your decisions and actions, you should at the very least be able to preserve and enhance what is left
