All this week on AM Extra, we're bringing you along an honor flight trip to our nation's capital.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Twenty-one local veterans with Honor Flight of Northwest Oregon had a chance to see firsthand the testaments to their service and sacrifice in Washington D.C.

The majority of the veterans on this trip served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and a visit to the National Mall and Memorial Parks was a highlight for many.

"I just kind of dreamed of someday being here just to add, I guess, closure. It's just soothing to be able to see your friend's name," Navy veteran Roger Henderson said as he searched for familiar names along the dark granite of the Vietnam War Memorial.
