Plans for Michigan and Western Michigan to open the 2026 season in Germany have fallen through and the teams will not play overseas.

Michigan announced on Wednesday that Michigan and WMU will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 at Michigan Stadium as originally scheduled. The programs were in discussion, both confirmed in late July , to play Aug. 29, 2026 at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany.
