NFL legend Tim Tebow has a message for everyone living with dyslexia, like him: “It’s not a disability, it is a difference. It’s not a weakness, it is uniqueness.”

“I really, truly, with my whole heart, believe that,” Tebow, 38, tells TODAY.com.

When the former NFL quarterback was in seventh grade, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, a learning disorder that typically involves difficulty reading as a result of “differences in areas of the brain that process language,” according to the Mayo Clinic .

Reflecting on receiving his diagnosis, Tebow remembers feeling “so grateful because it made sense. ... ‘Oh my gosh, I get it. I get why that was difficult.’”
