Traffic by land and sea will be affected by mechanical problems at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge connecting Yorktown and Gloucester Point.

The bridge will need to be opened manually, causing each opening to take an additional 25 to 40 minutes, meaning total opening times will take between 45 and 60 minutes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The bridge is opened on demand for marine vessels, in compliance with federal regulations, which is enforced by the Coast Guard.

VDOT has asked marine vessels to provide notice of passing through two hours ahead of schedule to accommodate the staffing needed to open the bridge. Typically, vessels do not have to provide any notice, VDOT said in a news release.
