DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT COMMISSIONER ROBERT S. TUCKER HAS ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION, the day after voters elected Zohran Mamdani as their next mayor, the Daily News reported . Tucker succeeded FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh on Aug. 12, 2024, a month after she resigned. Tucker owns a private security company and is a philanthropist and longtime board member of the FDNY Foundation, the agency’s official not-for-profit arm, although he has no firefighting experience.

While it is customary for officials in an outgoing administration to submit their resignations, they are not required to do so. An anonymous source told the Daily News that Tucker, who will leave his post on Dec. 19, sensed that he would not “mesh well” with Mamdani, a Democratic socialist and
