Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee has been detained by local police officers after influencer Iris Hsieh’s death was reclassified as a homicide.

Namewee, 42, surrendered to police on Wednesday, November 5, according to Sky News. The outlet reported that Namewee (real name Wee Meng Chee) will “be placed under remand for six days,” according to his attorney.

“I hope that the investigation will be carried out thoroughly and with the utmost objectivity and fairness,” lawyer Joshua Tay said in his statement.

Hsieh, 31, was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur on October 22. As police officers investigated her death, they claimed that Hsieh was last seen with Namewee, who was subsequently detained. He was charged with drug possession and use but vehemently denied the accusations
