DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers’ Grapefruit League exhibition opener is just 108 days away.
The Tigers open the spring season on Feb. 21 at Tampa against the New York Yankees. Their home opener in Lakeland, Fla., is Feb. 22 against the Baltimore Orioles.
Major League Baseball released its spring schedules on Wednesday.
There are a few quirks. The Tigers will play an exhibition against Panama on March 4 in Lakeland, one of several friendlies scheduled to help national teams prepare for the World Baseball Classic, which begins two days later.
The annual Spring Breakout prospect showcase is set for March 20 in Bradenton against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Detroit’s final Florida-based game will be March 21 against the Yankees in Lakeland. The Tigers will then head west for two exhibition games
